Hip fat, belly fat, and unwanted roundness. The worst women and men nightmares can be summed up in one word: fat. A term that creates anxiety and pushes us toward diets and undesired fasting.  However, not many people know that "fat", although highly disguised, plays a key role for the well-being of the body.

The energy that we need

Fats guarantee the right amount of energy to the body, by providing it with the strength for the proper functioning of the metabolism. Fats are fundamental components of the cellular structures and, they are used for the production of hormones and for the transport of fat-soluble substances (such as vitamins). Finally, by slowing down the absorption of sugar, they reduce the production of insulin and adipose tissue.

Fatty acids, essential for the body

Since they are not produced by the body, the fatty acids must be introduced through the diet due to their fundamental action for the correct functioning of the human physical structure.

They are divided in

  • Unsaturated fats: of vegetable origin, they are the best allies of cellular health. They counteract the production of "bad" cholesterol and triglycerides, reduce blood circulation disorders and symptoms associated with premenstrual phase. They are found in nuts, seeds, fish oil and extra virgin olive oil.
  • Saturated fat: of animal origin (meat, eggs and dairy products), they are among the causes of cardiovascular disease and, for this reason, considered unhealthy. Some researchers believe, on the contrary, that there is no link between the consumption of saturated fatty acids and cardiac problems. The results of a study conducted by the University of Cambridge has confirmed this hypothesis, and found no correlation between saturated fats and cardiovascular risk.

Saturated fat: a health risk?

According to some research, saturated fats do not directly affect the risk of cardiovascular problems. Therefore, it would be preferable to define their action as "indirect" since, if associated with other types of carbohydrates or fats, then becomes a major cause of overweight and obesity

In addition, some researchers have found that the fatty acids in dairy products significantly reduce the risk of the development of heart or artery diseases.

The secrets of wellness

The secrets of a healthy heart are regular physical activity and good nutrition. Reducing inactivity, not smoking while following a balanced and varied diet, rich in fruits and vegetables, contributes significantly to the well-being of the whole body. A healthy lifestyle can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Learn to take care of your body with Bioimis!
