L'importance de l'absorption du glucose au niveau intestinal est représentée par la notion d'indice glycémique, même s’il est étudié depuis plus de trente ans nous n'en avons pas encore compris la grande importance pour la santé et le bien-être sur les êtres humains.
La sous-estimation de la notion de l'indice glycémique est due au fait que la notion thermodynamique de la Calorie (ou du Joule) est encore utilisée dans les sciences de l'alimentation.
Le Programme Bioimis, par contre, considère de fondamentale importance le contrôle de l'augmentation du sucre (glucose) après les repas.
