Effectiveness of the Nutritional Program in weight loss

By means of a statistical analysis carried out on data collected by the Bioimis Research Center, the effectiveness of the Bioimis method for losing weight has been verified

The main objective of the analysis is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Bioimis Nutritional Program by initially using statistical techniques for evaluating data quality and by subsequently using methods for identifying groups of customers who have followed the Nutritional Program in question.

The observational study conducted on a sample of 2,684 clients was initially conducted through the ‘cluster analysis’. With this methodology we tried to identify groups of customers who have achieved different results, of the quantitative variables present in the database and mainly related to the decrease in weight.

Of the sample under examination:

  • 79% are females;
  • 66% did not report any pathologies;
  • 78% have a Platinum contract;
  • 45% are resident in the south and 32% in the north.

The set of variables considered for the research for groups consists of:

  1. descriptive/supplementary variables: gender, health status, region of residence, (geographical distribution), type of contract, age in completed years;
  2. variables in analysis: initial BMI, initial weight, weight at 60 days, weight at 90 days, latest weight, pulse, height, age when starting Ideal Fit, age when activating Keep Fit, age latest weight, duration Ideal Fit.

The variables under analysis have been standardized in order to eliminate the different units of measurement.

The analysis produced a well-structured partition in 4 groups:

  1. Slightly overweight, 25% of the sample is composed of individuals who have ‘the lowest values’ of the descriptive variables with respect to the other groups, a shorter period of Ideal Fit and an average age of 48 for the variables under analysis. With prevalence of: Females, LIFE contract, residents in the North-East, Hypothyroidism.
  2. Overweight, 22% of the sample is composed of individuals who present ‘average low values’ for the descriptive variables, an average period in Ideal Fit and the lowest average age for the variables under analysis. Without prevalence of any type of gender and contract, resident in the South.
  3. Accentuated overweight, 37% of the sample is composed of individuals who present ‘average high values’ for the descriptive variables, the longest period in Ideal Fit and the highest average age for the variables under analysis. Without prevalence of any type of gender, but prevalence of PLATINUM contract (95%), residents in the North and Hypertensive.
  4. Strongly overweight, 16% of the sample is composed of individuals who have ‘the highest values’ of the descriptive variables with respect to the other groups, a high permanence in Ideal Fit and with an average age of 42 for the variables under analysis. With prevalence of males, residents in the South and islands and without declared pathologies.

The analysis of the average values of weight loss in the four groups presents the following situation:

  • the first group has a weight loss of about 7kg (about 9% of the initial weight);
  • the second group has a weight loss of about 11 kg (about 12% of the initial weight);
  • the third group has a weight loss of about 11 kg (about 12% of the initial weight);
  • the fourth group has a weight loss of about 15 kg (about 12% of the initial weight).

Overall, using the average values, the 2,684 customers (including those with little weight to lose and those with a lot of weight to lose) lost 28,652 kg, which corresponds on average to 10.67 kg in the average Ideal Fit period of 74 days.

A second observational analysis was carried out taking into account the weight trend at the different moments of observation, the gender, the duration of the observation time, the age of entry into Ideal Fit (beginning of the diet) and state of health (healthy is the reference mode).

The results highlight 5 groups of which: three of them have a weight reduction ranging from 25 to 8 kg, with a variation from 24% to 9% compared to their initial weight. One group has a slight decrease in weight both in absolute terms (1 kg, about 1%), while one group, about 2% of the sample, has not benefited from the diet.

In conclusion, the two analyses adopted to evaluate the efficacy of the diet proposed by Bioimis show that 98% of the subjects recorded an average decrease in weight of 10.67 kg, with a maximum loss of 25 kg in the average Ideal Fit period of 74 days.
