Antioxidants, anti-aging creams and magic potions. To contrast aging signs we would do anything, but we often forget the simplest solutions: proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits. The cellular aging is the first consequence of free radicals (molecules formed of  reactive and unstable atoms). How can we prevent the damage? Let's find out ...

What are free radicals?

Free radicals are the most obvious effect of the oxygen action on our body. The free radicals production takes place through biochemical cellular reactions, especially in the reactions that uses oxygen to produce energy. Breathing allows to introduce large amounts of oxygen which, although vital, has some negative effects on the body. The products of its oxidation, including the free radicals, are highly reactive and potentially dangerous. Not preventing the effect would cause severe cells changes that, in the worst cases, can directly attack the DNA.
