Why go on a diet? We often think that a healthy diet can help us with weight loss and/or solves health related issue, and it is true to a certain point. However, more than a diet, what is of great value is the approach to a healthy nutrition lifestyle that will become part of you!

Concentration problems?

Besides providing the right amount of energy to the body, proper nutrition can positively influence the concentration levels and, more broadly, benefits all our brain performance. Working, studying and stress take away energy and lucidity: the eyes become heavy, the sight clouds up and tiredness takes place. In such cases, it is easy to give in to the temptation of a snack (crackers, candy, drink coffee or smoke a cigarette). Why does this happen? Well, the explanation is simple: the brain goes in "reserve-mode", like a car that has traveled too many miles, needs a refueling stop.

Choose the right foods!

The brain mainly feeds on sugar, gathering from glucose the energy needed to carry out its daily functions. Blood tests calculate the blood sugar: the level of glucose in the blood on an empty stomach. This value must range between specific limits to avoid serious health complications. It is important to choose seasonal and fresh foods. Choose from fruits and vegetables of your preference, especially if eaten raw. They introduce valuable vitamins such as A, C and E, flavonoids, and anthocyanins, antioxidant elements that help the brain and the whole body to fight fatigue and stress.

The glucose circulating in the blood comes from foods containing sugars:

  • carbohydrates (bread, pasta)
  • rice
  • potatoes
  • sweets
  • fruits and vegetables
  • grape juice: it improves memory skills
  • berries and red-purple fruits: they prevent the early aging of the brain
  • nuts: rich in vitamin E, magnesium, zinc, and fatty acids useful to improve the efficiency of the brain.

Insulin and glycemia

Lots of sweets, lots of health? Not exactly so. The sugar content in food is absorbed into the bloodstream and transported to the various tissues of the body by the insulin hormone. If produced in excess, insulin lowers blood sugar levels quickly, depriving the brain of the supply necessary to its proper functioning.

That's why eating foods containing lots of sugar or salt determines continuous fluctuations in the level of blood sugar.
