To say starving is the quickest way to lose weight is totally an urban legend! Such a bad habit is not only dangerous for the body but it also doesn't produce any good results.  Science is clear on its findings: starving activates in our body some counter-regulatory mechanisms that may undo, in the days to come, the eventual lost of weight..

What does this means? Well, starving might look like the quickest way to achieve the ideal weight but it is not true. In fact, when your body doesn't receive food, a counter-strategy gets activated to slow the metabolism, so to waste the least amount of energy. Any possible weight loss is only temporary, since when you will start eating again you will gain all the weight lost and more!

Attention: Starving is not recommended even for short periods of time (maybe you need to lose weight quickly). Why? Because it only makes you lose from your lean mass and not from the effective fats. This process, also called autocannibalism, will create a lack of essential amino acids and will determine a blockage of the protein synthesis. The body will then be forced to consume lean mass since it needs to lack of find the necessary protein for functionality.
